About the Artist
LeToya S. Bittle
Born February 15, 1980 in High Point, NC, I've had a passion for art since i was a child. I first realized my talent in the 7th grade when my art teacher went behind my back and entered one of my art class paintings in a regional contest. It was a watercolor painting of a black ballerina, which I thought was hideous. I came in 3rd place and thought, wow people actually like my work. I’ve been creating ever since
Although I've been creating art all my life I just began sharing my work publicly over the last 5 years. When I lost my job of 4 years in August of 2014, it allowed me to devote all of my time to my passion of art. Although things were very difficult, getting "the boot" was a blessing in disguise. For the first time in my life I was able to focus on my passion. That “rough period” was exactly what I needed to realize my actual talent. If you’ll notice, most of my pieces created in 2014 are using scrap materials as I was unable to afford canvas. I learned the true meaning of “starving artist”. My father actually built several of the canvases I used in my first showcase in 2015.
INSPIRATIONS
Art is my first love and in my opinion, the greatest form of self expression. My artwork is a direct representation of my thoughts. If i can imagine it, then i can create it and it will be dope. I’m inspired by everyday life. I see beauty in certain people and objects and want to express my version of it. I am a lifelong fan of the works of Vincent Van Gogh. I love his passion. You can almost feel the torture from his soul in his paintings. His creations are thought provoking and expressive. I attempt to evoke the same emotion in my work. I want those who view my art to feel what I felt at the time of creation.
